Obama pisses off Gay Rights Group?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

WASHINGTON (AP) — A gay rights group on Monday urged Barack Obama to cut ties with a gospel singer who it says spreads false information about homosexuality being a choice.

Donnie McClurkin is among several gospel singers scheduled to raise money for the Illinois senator and Democratic presidential candidate at a concert in South Carolina this weekend.

McClurkin has drawn attention from gay rights activists for his views on homosexuality.

"I don't believe that it is the intention of God," McClurkin said Monday in a telephone interview. "Sexuality, everything is a matter of choice."

McClurkin said he does not believe in discriminating against homosexuals. "What people do in their bedrooms and who they are as human beings are two different things," he said.

In a statement, Obama said he believes gays and lesbians are "our brothers and sisters" and should be afforded the same respect, dignity and rights granted all other citizens.

"I have consistently spoken directly to African-American religious leaders about the need to overcome the homophobia that persists in some parts our community so that we can confront issues like HIV/AIDS and broaden the reach of equal rights in this country," Obama said. "I strongly believe that African Americans and the LGBT community must stand together in the fight for equal rights. And so I strongly disagree with Reverend McClurkin's views and will continue to fight for these rights as president of the United States to ensure that America is a country that spreads tolerance instead of division."

The statement did not say whether McClurkin will still perform on the tour.

"We strongly urge Obama to part ways with this divisive preacher who is clearly singing a different tune than the stated message of the campaign," Wayne Besen, executive director of Truth Wins Out, said in a statement.

At a forum on gay issues in August, Obama argued that civil unions for same-sex couples wouldn't be a "lesser thing" than marriage. Obama belongs to the United Church of Christ, which supports gay marriage, but Obama has yet to go that far.

In a telephone interview Monday, Besen said he admired Obama, but wasn't ready to endorse him, especially considering McClurkin taking part in the campaign's "Embrace the Change" concert tour.

"I think he'd be a great president. But I think it's going to drive away support from people who are on the fence such as myself," Besen said.

McClurkin is a Grammy Award winner who performed at the Republican National Convention in 2004. He told AP Radio in an interview that September that he was "once involved with those desires and those thoughts," which he attributed to being raped at 8 and 13.

"That's what thrust me into it, and then God delivered me from that and gave me back who I really am and my true purpose," McClurkin said.

Does anyone else think the dresses on these chicks will fall off??

I do!!

I'm all about style. I'm all about fashion. I'm all for taking risks. I"m all for haute couture. I'm even all for being a fashion pioneer and wearing crap that's just plain ridiculous, but am I the only one here worried that the dresses are going to fall off these chicas below? If you're not going to wear a bra, that's your perrogative. If you're going to wear a strapless dress, that's your right. But please, for the love of all things fashion, don't make me sit here, perched on the edge of my seat, worried that your dress is going to fall. I may sound like i'm still pissed but i'm really not. Really.

Cate Blanchett - I know we all adore her. She's one of the most versatile actresses and one of the foremost fashion risktakers during awards season. I love her because she's a good actress and one of the few who have abstained from botox. She's always part of these really excellent movies, like Babel, Elizabeth, you get the picture, right? So anywhooooo ---

Heather Graham - She's a cool actress too, but this dress is close to hitting the ground......

Jennifer Love Hewitt
another cool actress who hasn't been to rehab yet, but this dress is about to fall off.

Maybe I'm just been paronoid and maybe its just me. But then Jennifer Connelly just pisses the hell out me in this contraption below. C'mon now..........

How my love for soccer healed me........

Sooooo, I had to work late last night. Not that its unusual, but I wasn't pleased. Today I woke up at 6.30 am to throw the alarm clock across the room. Then I rolled over and went back to bed. I woke at 7.30 am again to walk across the room, pick up the alarm clock from where I threw it last, open the battery case, remove the batteries and throw the damn thing in the thrash. What was it thinking? Waking me up to go to work. Yeah, that. So I got back into bed until my damn girlfriends starting emailing me at 9.30 am. The damn blackberry (which I will hereafter refer to as my parole officer or ankle bracelet) starting vibrating. I thought it was my boss so I rolled over, picked it up, cursed silently and read the email. It wasn't just one email, but five...... from my friends. Nothing in particular. Just idle chatter. I turned the damn ankle bracelet off and went back to sleep. I woke up at 10am to someone pounding on my front door. Apparently, something with the plumbing? whatev!! I'd had enough. I pulled on my sweats, brushed my teeth, packed up my stuff and headed to work---to work out.
As I walked into the office building the security guard at the front desk stopped to ask if she could help me. I guess she didn't recognize me because I wasn't in a suit. My face hadn't changed. I still had the same ratty ponytail. Apart from my outfit or lack thereof, I looked the same as I did when I walked out of the office building last night. She was really testing my patience. She repeated herself three time and I answered three times saying "no." Then she stepped up in my face, in my personal space and repeated herself. Ok, last straw. I turned around and told her "look you wench. [and i used wench because she knew damn well who i was. she just doesn't that to all the noncaucasian folks who work in the building. damn wench].....No you cannot help me." Let me ask you three questions.....
Me: are you going to give me the winning mega million numbers?
Wench: No ..........(looking quite confused and appropriately perturbed)
Me: are you going to find me a rich husband?
Wench: No..........(looking freaked out)
Me: Are you going to do my job for me?
Wench: No...........(looking pissed and starting to get confrontational
Me: Then NO, you can't freaggin help me. Why are you asking me if you can help me when you know you can't? Why are you asking me if you can help me if its not going to change the fact that I still have to go upstairs to work? If you're not going to go upstairs and sit in my office and do my damn job and deal with those rasses i deal with on the regular, then NO, you cannot help me and don't ask me if you can. Just stay out of my way. I'm going down the hall to the gym, work out my aggression on the treadmill and head upstairs to my office. Just stay out of my freaggin way ok. Can you help me? Don't freaggin test me!!!

So I worked out......... showered, meditated and took the elevator up to my office. I saw my assistant as soon as I stepped out the elevator. She was freaking out because it was 11 am and all these people were looking for me. All these people had left all these messages for me to like call them. Because like they needed me to like pdf them these documents that they like needed for like this really really urgent matter? I nodded and said "well, ok. i'm here now."

I sat at my desk and checked my voicemail. 15 messages. Everyone needed something. Everything was urgent. I deleted all the messages and did some work. Four hours later. No calls. No one checked to see if I was around. Guess what? Those MFKRs actually did the work they needed themselves. Shoot. So, they can work huh? I was learning slowly. Learning how to regulate the craziness that is "the demands of my job." All these time I've been running crazy trying to do everything for everyone because they always need everything "yesterday." And today I finally find out they don't. They're just using me? OK.

Six hours later, some random chick I occassionally work with called and asked me to pdf her some documents that she had in her office already. Her assistant was out and she didn't feel like doing it herself. I told her where to find them. She told me she knew where they were but didn't have the time to get them. Really??? So what the heck do you think I am? You call me across state lines to ask me to pdf it to you across state lines? You're not my boss. You're not my supervisor. You're not on my team and I don't work for you. How dare you? I told her exactly what physically impossible things she could go do to herself and hung up on her. I was setting boundaries. Today was not the day and I was not the one.

Then I worked for another couple of hours and headed home. I checked my mail. The post office had messed up and delivered some other dude's mail to my house. This was the third time in two weeks. I called the post office and they told me they'd take care of it but that they were having some issues? Really? How the frack does that affect me. I need my damn mail so that I can pay my damn bills. How's that for issues? What the frack does it matter that you're having issues. I was pissed. And then I looked down at the dude's mail.....................

And I thought, why can't I make lemonade out of lemons, you know? Why can't I just smile and be happy. After all, I was staring down at a soccer magazine with david beckham's face on it. Now, I love soccer. I watch the world cup and I think apart from basketball, it has the highest concentration of hot men. Hot men with wonderful foreign accents and beautiful chiseled bodies. So I figured I'd just entertain myself with the hotness that is Beckham............ Picture source

Then of course, there was the hotness that is Manchester United player Christiano Ronaldo

Let's just say I'm not so pissed anymore. And then of course while posting this on the blog I came across the illegal hotness that is zac effron....... seriously he's only what? turned 20 this week....... so wrong

You're probably thinking its just a regular day.......why is this chick so angry? Guess what? It's my damn perrogative if i want to be angry? Don't you need to be working anyway? Why are you loitering around on this blog?

Drafting Your Business Plan

Tips for your fabulous business plan!!!

1.Fabulous Tip 1

2.Fabulous Tip 2

3.Fabulous Tip 3

4.Fabulous Tip 4

5.Fabulous Tip 5

Stop Dreaming and Start Your Own Business......

Tired of playing by your boss's rules? Tired of wondering if you have what it takes to navigate your financial freedom? Wondering if you can make your dreams a reality? Wondering how you can get out of debt and do the things you truly want to do? Well, here's your guidepost ---- Very Basic Easy to Understand Rules --------

1. Get organized!! Get a day planner and write your goals - where are you, where you need to be, what you need to do to get there. Figure out why you want to start your business? Are you turning your hobby into an income stream? Will it be part-time or full-time? If possible, start out part-time and keep your current employment. You can use your salary to float while you start up the business. If you're just bored and tired of working for your boss, evaluate your decision. Perharps you can switch jobs or take a sabbatical. Don't do anything drastic until you figure your true reasons for leaving your stable employment for the unknown.

2. Get information!!! Do your research. Be realistic. Just because you have an idea doesn't mean you're going to be rich. What do you want to sell? What is your niche? Who are you targeting?

3. Get out there!! Go online. Go to your local library. Attend workshops. Volunteer. Study the competition.

4. Get a business plan!!!! Put your thoughts and ideas on paper. This allows you to figure out what you need. Describe the goods or services you plan to offer. Describe the market. Determine how much you need. Figure out where the source of your investment. How much startup cash do you need? Don't forget advertising costs. You don't want the business to be a secret, do you? How are you going to get the word out?

5. Get your money straight!!! If you're drowning in debt, pay down your debt before plunging your life savings or retirement into a new venture. Don't put your startup costs on a credit card. You don't want to rob Peter to pay Paul. Check your credit history. You may be able to use your savings or you could be eligible for small business loans from banks or other credit institutions. Overestimate your budget. This allows you to fall back on any accumulated cash reserves.

6. Get your legal setup!!! There are several types of legal entities ranging from sole proprietorships to limited partnerships to limited liability companies. Speak to legal and tax professionals for guidance.

7. Get started!!! You've done your research. You've met with the legal and tax professionals. You've got your financing. You've got your permits and/or licenses. You may start with an on-line establishment or a brick and mortar store. The main advantages of online trading are the low overhead costs. Online trading allows you to get your "feet wet" and gives you a feel of the consumer response to your products or services. If you're sure that a brick and mortar is your ideal route, then go for it.

8. Get realistic!!! You may not start off with a bang, but remember its a process!!! You'll lose some sleep. You'll second-guess your decision. You'll wonder why you gave up your 9 to 5 for what appears to be a 24 hour headache. Don't give up yet. The rewards are great. The intrinsic satisfaction is priceless. You've dreamed about this. You've worked hard for it. It's here. Enjoy the ride!!!!

In the News

Friday, October 19, 2007

Is anyone else being worn down by the recent incidents of racism and ignorance? Whether it's nooses or name-calling, it seems like every time I turn on the news or open my e-mail, some new incident of bigotry is slapping me in the face. The latest is an incident involving 1962 Nobel Prize winner Jim Watson, a 79-year-old American, who remarked to a newspaper recently that he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours, whereas all the testing says not really." He went on to state that there was no basis for assuming that persons raised in different geographical locations evolved equally and while he hoped everyone was equal, "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true."

Watson has since attempted to backtrack and cannot even believe he made those statements. (Insert blank stare). Please........pulling the AARP card does not excuse this type of statement. I take offense not only to his "research" on intelligence, but as a hard working Black lawyer, I'm incredulous that he would actually tell a newspaper that black employees are not equal to whites. Sadly, I suspect a lot of people feel this way privately, but don't actually voice their opinions.

To that end, I think Yolanda Denise King is right when she said, "Jim Crow is dead, but his sophisticated cousin James Crow, Esq., is very much alive."

JOKER OF THE WEEK Nominations

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Congrats to P. Diddy for garnering 71% of the vote and being named Joker of the Week. Who will take next week's crown?

  • Britney Spears - It's bad enough that she lost custody of her kids to friggin' K-Fed, but now TMZ is reporting that she's even lost visitation rights until she complies with all of the court's orders. In addition, she had to turn herself in to authorities this week for a hit and run in August and driving without a valid license. Will somebody take this chick to the altar? Lawd have mercy.

  • Senator Larry Craig - For changing his story so many times and refusing to resign after the airport, wide-stance bathroom stall debacle, and for generally looking shady on the Today show this week while defending his actions.

  • O.J. - Two of his co-defendants are now going to testify against him in the burglary case. Things look mighty grim for the Juice.

JOKER OF THE WEEK Nominations

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Congrats to Bill O'Reilly who was crowned Joker of the Week with a whopping 50% of the vote. But which of these contenders can possibly dethrone him????
P Daddy - For finally acknowledging what everyone has known for months --that he had two women pregnant at the same time and has a child down in the ATL.

Wayne Newton - For finger pointing and winking at the crowd to mask the fact that he could not dance AND for being booted off of Dancing With The Stars after the worst dancing on the show since Percy "Master P" Miller graced the DWTS stage. (And that's saying a lot given that Jerry Springer was a prior contestant......).

Kiefer Sutherland - For joining the ever-growing list of "celebrities busted for a DUI who are rich enough to hire a d*mn driver!" 48 days in jail.............

The entire cast of I Love New York 2 - NO EXPLANATION necessary.

Who will take the crown this week? The polls are open!

Still think Racism doesn't exist?

1. Black woman tortured by white captors for weeks in WVA -- http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/13/woman.tortured.ap/index.html?iref=newssearch

2. "A black student was held against his will and "KKK" and swastikas were drawn on him in marker . . ." -- http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/04/deafschool.racial.incident/index.html

These were just the past month and half. Are we becoming more racially, ethnically, and religiously insensitive in this country? What's going on?

Random Tidbits

Thursday, October 4, 2007

Apparently, Michael Vick took sensitivity to animals training during the midst of his dog-fighting scandal. (insert blank stare). Unfortunately for Vick, he was a day late and a dollar short. Let's file this in the "celebrity got caught saying or doing something horrendous and now is taking classes/counseling to mend the error of his/her ways" files.

Lil Wayne, the guy, who along with T-Pain, is on every song on the radio now, shared some insightful thoughts in the upcoming November issue of Vibe magazine. Including gems like:

Q. You must have the most unique voice in that world.

A. Some people can't sing and can just use their voice very uniquely. I was watching these clips on E! of the worst people singing the National Anthem and - what's the dudes name from that rock group - the n**** with the big lips?

Q. Steven Tyler.

A. Steven Tyler? That's the n**** with the big lips? That n****'s like the worst ever! The secret - WHITE PEOPLE CAN'T SING UNLESS YOU'RE ROBIN THICKE!

Q. He's the only one?

A. I know they got more but I don't feel like thinking right now. I just... I don't care - f*ck them!

Wow! Putting aside the craziness/racism of his statement, Robin Thicke is the best he could come up with? WTH? Seriously? Is it too late to make Lil Wayne a contender for Joker of the Week?

Something Is Wrong With This Picture

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

CNN is reporting that Bush just vetoed a bill to expand health insurance coverage for low income children. The Democrats intend to attempt to override the veto, but don't currently have enough votes in the House of Representatives to do so. The proposed bill would cost an estimated $35 billion over the course of the next 5 years. Yet, this same President wants to spend $190 billion in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008 alone. Am I the only person outraged by this? We can spend billions abroad on an unjust, disastrous and failing war, but are reluctant to provide health insurance to young children in the U.S? There is something terribly wrong with this picture........

Britney's Cry for Help----Y'all are not listening.......

Monday, October 1, 2007

I was going to stay mum on the Britney issue. But when I saw the "worldbreaking" (this news obviously supersedes the news that the Dow closed today at a record high after surging almost 200 points -- http://www.azlyrics.com/s/spears.html ) news on cnn---http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/01/spears.federline/index.html, I had to pause for a moment of silence.......... and disagree with the Judge's decision. How can he do this to Brit Brit. My Brit Brit. Is it because "Oops she did it again?" (2000 album) or
Is it because "What you see (is What you Get)?" (same 2000 album) or "Let[her] be" (2001 album) or "What its like to be [her]" (same 2001 album) or because she "can't make [the Judge] love her?" (2000 album)? Honestly, I"m baffled here. I'm trying to figure out why the Judge took the kids away. Help me y'all............

Is it because "[she's] a slave for you" (2001 album), or because she was "born to make [the Judge] happy?" (1999 album), or, or, or,............. I'm so confused y'all..............

Oh, oh, wait, I got it now......... Is it because she's "lonely?" (2001 album), is because of the "soda pop?" (1999 album) - why take away the kids because she loves soda? C'mon Judge, who doesn't like soda pop every now and then? Who doesn't? Maybe its because she thinks she's "got it all?" (2000 album). My heart tells me its because Brit Brit is "toxic" (2003 album) and "outrageous" (same 2003 album) or because she's a "shadow" (same 2003 album) of her former self. I dunno............... Call her mama, call her sister............. Wait, I've got it now............

IT MUST BE BECAUSE HER LIFE IS "CHAOTIC" (2005)............ Y'all need to know that this chick has been sreaming (um, sorry i meant singing) for help since 1999............. y'all. Its no coincidence that her song titles tell the story of her life. I want Brit Brit to take control y'all. I must admit..........I've never listened to her music. I've never read about her, but I feel sad for her. Don't you? Don't cha? Don't cha? Oh wait, Is that one of those other songs about wishing your girlfriend was hot like me??? OOoops, I did it again............. Sorry, back to Britney!!!!

Maybe the Judge has "the answer" (2003 album) ............. Maybe the Judge can turn Britney into a "brave new girl" (same 2003 album).

She's been telling y'all her story since 1999..........check it out........ at www.azlyrics.com/s/spears.html

Ok, so he gets it from his "mama". Mama West compares Kanye to Jesus!! Have Mercy on her soul, please Lord

Ok, as much as I hate to give this cry baby anymore publicity--I have to take 10 seconds to vent. Like most of America, yes I was annoyed when he cried about being "tricked" into believing that performing in some lounge (pre-taped) would somehow be more exciting than performing live on the "big stage". Yeah, ok? I was amused when he said that he was boycotting MTV as if Viacom will suddenly shut down. I was baffled when he declared that he and JT were the "Michael and Prince" of today. I was confused when people were rushing out to buy his CD after he declared himself (with no reason) as a "Titan of Hip-Hop". But, ok I get it--he's confident and self assured and today, one must be his or her own biggest fan. However, I'm done with this fool and his mama for that matter. Donda has gone too far. In a recent interview with the Baltimore Sun, Kanye's mama said:
"Kanye keeps it real. He touches the people. You never know how words can save a person's life, physically or otherwise," she tells the Baltimore Sun. "People like Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi or, in my view, Barack Obama, or Jesus Christ — people whose job it is to tell the truth — I see that in Kanye. Now, people like you are gonna go, 'Oh, Kanye's mom said he's like Jesus!' but ... when you have a gift, you didn't get it by yourself. ... Your truth is your truth."
Again, I'm confused--With the exception of Jesus Walks and Diamonds are Forever--what truths is this fool telling? Writing two thoughtful songs does not make a MLK, Gandhi or Obama. Should we just forget about "Gold Digger"? Donda has a PhD and I'm sure she goes to church--does she really think that some crybaby, "suspect" hip-hop performer saves and touches lives like our Lord and Savior? C'mon. Those weekly/monthly checks from her son are really clouding her judgment. What she needs is a "reality check". Dr. Donda--your baby is an entertainer and producer. With the exception of that now infamous outburst about Bush, he has not spoke out on any "truths" that affect or uplift his people (unless they are celebrities who he mentioned should have opened instead of Brit). We will survive if Kanye takes an early retirment (in fact, I may start a petition requesting that he do so). He has not made history as we hope Obama will do, he sure as hell isn't an advocate of peace like MLK or Ghandi, and as far as the comparison to the Lord, as MB would say "Sweet Jesus" please forgive them, for they do not know what they say.
So, I said all of that to say--Kanye comes up with a hot beat--period. He's not that special.

JOKER OF THE WEEK

We here in CITC world are sometimes baffled by the shenanigans and sheer tomfoolery of celebrities, politicians, and even average joes. Whether they have been arrested for a sports memorabillia sting operation, took a wide stance in an airport bathroom or simply wore an outfit so heinous that banishment is necessary, we like to recognize their accomplishments with a JOKER OF THE WEEK Award. To clarify, we use the term Joker as it is defined by UrbanDictionary.com - a fairly mild insult, that can represent (a) anger over someone’s more than likely ignorant action; (b) similar to fool.
Each week we will have a series of contenders. Feel free to nominate any jokers we happen to miss.

This weeks’ 1st contender, who arguably should be made a lifetime contender: Bill O’Reilly. Last week it hit the news that Mr. O’Reilly was stunned to see that African Americans could conduct themselves in a civilized manner after he went to Sylvia’s in Harlem and an Anita Baker concert where (gasp), Black men were wearing tuxedos! Call the fire department! Even worse, was his statement, “I think black Americans are starting to think more and more for themselves. They're getting away from the Sharptons and the [Rev. Jesse] Jacksons and the people trying to lead them into a race-based culture. They're just trying to figure it out. 'Look, I can make it. If I work hard and get educated, I can make it." WOW. Condescending, Patronizing, Ignorant, Racist. Oh yes, this man must be a permanent contender!

We're fairly certain other jokers will rise up to challenge Mr. O'Reilly's bid for Joker of the Week. So send in your nominations. But short of a bloody miracle...........
