JOKER OF THE WEEK
Monday, October 1, 2007
We here in CITC world are sometimes baffled by the shenanigans and sheer tomfoolery of celebrities, politicians, and even average joes. Whether they have been arrested for a sports memorabillia sting operation, took a wide stance in an airport bathroom or simply wore an outfit so heinous that banishment is necessary, we like to recognize their accomplishments with a JOKER OF THE WEEK Award. To clarify, we use the term Joker as it is defined by UrbanDictionary.com - a fairly mild insult, that can represent (a) anger over someone’s more than likely ignorant action; (b) similar to fool.
Each week we will have a series of contenders. Feel free to nominate any jokers we happen to miss.
This weeks’ 1st contender, who arguably should be made a lifetime contender: Bill O’Reilly. Last week it hit the news that Mr. O’Reilly was stunned to see that African Americans could conduct themselves in a civilized manner after he went to Sylvia’s in Harlem and an Anita Baker concert where (gasp), Black men were wearing tuxedos! Call the fire department! Even worse, was his statement, “I think black Americans are starting to think more and more for themselves. They're getting away from the Sharptons and the [Rev. Jesse] Jacksons and the people trying to lead them into a race-based culture. They're just trying to figure it out. 'Look, I can make it. If I work hard and get educated, I can make it." WOW. Condescending, Patronizing, Ignorant, Racist. Oh yes, this man must be a permanent contender!
We're fairly certain other jokers will rise up to challenge Mr. O'Reilly's bid for Joker of the Week. So send in your nominations. But short of a bloody miracle...........
